The summer games will take place in Tokyo, Japan from July 24th to August 9th of 2020.  You can also attend the Paralympics if you want an extended stay in Tokyo. Getting Around Town

Traveling in Japan is so easy, thanks to new high-speed bullet trains. The trains can reach speeds up to 370 miles per hour, so you will get to your destination in no time. Buses are also popular for public transportation options. Flights to Japan usually land at Narita International Airport or Haneda Airport. Though you aren’t required to have a visa to visit Japan, you will need a valid passport. Even if you don’t want to stay in Tokyo, there are plenty of nearby cities like Kyoto or Yokohama to accommodate you and your family.

Olympic Events

There are over 320 events to attend during the 17-day competition! Tokyo will have 33 venues in and around Olympic Village for the events. Venues include the Heritage Zone and the Tokyo Bay Zone. The opening ceremony will take place on July 24, 2020, so be sure to arrive in Japan prior to that, as you’ll want to adjust to the time difference. You will also want to explore the city, as Tokyo has so much to do including shopping at 100 Yen Stores (a Japanese dollar store) or trying the best ramen shops around.

Cultural Differences: Be Respectful!

Before traveling to Japan, you will want to learn about the cultural differences that you might not be aware of. Japan has a very fast-paced atmosphere and tardiness is not tolerated. Japan is also a very clean country. Many locals wear facemasks in public and carry hand sanitizer or towelettes to reduce the transfer of germs. In Japan, meals are a special time of coming together. Fast food does exist in Japan; however, it can be seen as inconsiderate to eat while on public transportation or while walking.

Traveling to the Olympic games is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and Japan is the perfect place to visit for your first Olympic games! The beauty of Japan is something not found elsewhere in the world. Imagine watching your favorite sports with Mt. Fuji in the background or some extravagant shrines and temples. Visit the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum or the Tokyo Sea Life Park when your favorite athletes aren’t competing. Call our agents at 402.891.6909 to book your trip to the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics!
