The start of a new year usually means cleaning your bucket list; crossing off things you’ve accomplished and adding new, exciting adventures. If you are running out of ideas to drop in your bucket, travel never goes out of style! Where have you always wanted to go if you had the time and money? Don’t let that stop you in 2017 – set aside time, save the money, and get going! AurTravel has some travel destination trends that are in for 2017.

I could write an entire blog series of all there is to do in Switzerland. The moderate climate makes it a great destination any time of year. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking natural beauty of The Rhine Falls or Creux de Van. Visit Chillon Castle, the most visited historic building in Switzerland. It belonged to the Counts of Savoy from the 12th to 16th century. The complex includes 25 buildings and three courtyards and is protected by two walls. Learn the techniques of salt mining and take a mine train to a depth of 400 meters while visiting Bex. After all of this adventure, spoil your palette with Swiss wine, cheese, and chocolate.

If you are looking for a destination where you can truly immerse yourself in the culture, head to Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. More than a dozen different towns surround the lake where the Maya culture is still prevalent. Expect to spend at least one full week here. Visit an organic coffee farm at San Juan la Laguna or the colorful Solola Market. Attend a Mayan Ceremony where a priest will pray for your wellbeing. Climb Volcano Atitlan or hike through onion terraces. The good news here: you can do a whole lot of everything or a whole lot of nothing and have a great time either way.

French Polynesia
Otherwise known as Tahiti, the French Polynesia consists of more than 100 islands. There is more to this beautiful destination than romantic honeymoons. Rangiroa is one of the world’s greatest dive destinations. Craft centers and tiny shops provide land-based entertainment. The Marquesas Islands offer natural wonders like 1000-foot waterfalls down volcanic cliffs, and some islands are still virtually untouched. Mangareva is the largest island making up the Gambier Islands. In the town of Rikitea you can explore the St. Michael’s cathedral from 1848. Feed sharks, visit a pearl farm, or sit in a fresh flower bath; adventure and relaxation are at your fingertips.
