Amusement parks are one of the best getaways for a family trip because they offer something for everyone to enjoy. If you are an adrenaline junkie and love roller coasters, the U.S. has some great amusement parks that are not Disney. While Disney is great, the roller coaster selection is slim. Even if roller coasters aren’t your thing, amusement parks offer a huge variety of different rides for each person in your family. AurTravel has many tips and tricks for amusement parks, as well as some favorite parks and rides to be sure to visit!
Although we love Disney, it can be extremely expensive and there are only two locations in the United States (California and Florida). So for those who live in the Midwest, it may be difficult to spend money on flights and park tickets. Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio has 17 roller coasters and a beautiful view of Lake Erie. Another great park to visit is in Branson, Missouri at Silver Dollar City. There are more than 30 rides and attractions and crafters sell jewelry and other homemade items at the park. A favorite ride for families is the Lost River of the Rapids Ozarks that seats six and drenches all riders.
A smaller, Midwest park favorite is Arnolds Park in Lake Okoboji, Iowa. This waterfront park features a ferris wheel and a wooden roller coaster. It’s a family-favorite! Another Midwest theme park is in Kansas City, Missouri. Worlds of Fun offers many big coasters as well Camp Snoopy for the younger kiddos. Adventureland in Altoona, Iowa is another great park to visit as they have a lazy river, more than 100 rides and attractions, and even a swim-up bar!
The Mall of America in Minnesota might not seem like a theme park, but the indoor park stretches seven acres! The Log Chute at Nickelodeon Universe drops riders 40 feet. However, the park favorite is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shell Shock, which takes riders over the park on a partial self-controlled flight.
