Have you ever dreamed of relaxing in the laid back Mediterranean islands? Always wanted to soak up that Greek/Croatian culture and indulge in all the different types of food? Now’s your chance! Get the most out of your Mediterranean vacation by visiting multiple islands. They all are so unique and there’s so much to do and see!
Start off with some research beforehand. Figure out what types of islands you want to visit; there are over 200 inhabited Mediterranean islands to visit all with a unique vibe, activities, charm, and décor. Three weeks is the amount of time we suggest to ensure a perfect trip hopping islands. Make a list of some of the things you want to get out of your vacation and the environment you want to be in. This will help us narrow down the perfect islands for your trip.
When we plan your trip, we will keep in mind the ferry routes, as they are a bit complex. However, ferries are fun and add to the whole experience and ambiance of an island hopping Mediterranean trip. When planning the season to visit, consider going during the off season. While the weather may be a tiny bit chillier with occasional rain, you will experience little to no tourist crowds and be able to better experience the real culture of the destinations.
Leave plenty of free time to venture out and explore. Try not to plan every minute of every day. Schedule a few activities, but spend the rest of the time relaxing at the beach, exploring ancient ruins and the town centers, and taking in the beautiful views. Many visitors tell stories of venturing farther inland than most other tourists and finding local restaurants/bars where they get into long deep conversations with the bartenders or waitresses about the islands past history, the culture of the people, and much more fascinating information than you could ever get from sticking to the main tourist attractions and locations.
Here are a few tips to remember while on your island hopping Mediterranean adventure.
- Be prepared to eat late; Mediterranean’s don’t even begin to consider eating dinner until 10:00pm.
- Come ready to relax and do everything slower than you do in America; people on the islands are in no rush to do anything. So take advantage of it and relax (now’s your time to finally procrastinate and be praised for it!).
- Consider a couple day stay in Athens before or after your island hopping; even though it’s a part of the mainland it truly is an amazing place to visit with all of the historical sites and clash of many cultures.
- Include a mix of activities. There is such a wide variety of things to do on these islands, you have to try a little bit of everything.
