Best Places to Travel with Pets

I don’t know about you, but my dog is a big part of my family and I think she deserves a good vacation just like the rest of us! Here at AurTravel, we did a little digging recently to find some of the best places we could take our dogs on vaca and wanted to share some of our findings so you can pamper your pooches, too! There was such a wide variety of price ranges, amenities, and locations, so here are a few of our favorites!

The Hotel Telluride (Telluride, Colorado)

Formerly a Victorian mining town, Telluride boasts some of the most dog-friendly hiking trails and spots in the U.S. The Hotel Telluride offers many amenities for your fur babies including a welcome bag filled with treats and a list of nearby doggie friendly activities. Complimentary pick-up bags can be found at the front desk or all over town for your convenience. There are plenty of hiking trails to choose from and most allow dogs to be off a leash to roam as long as they follow voice commands. Make sure to check before you go as some of the trails are currently off limits to our furry friends in order to protect some rare flora and fauna. There are also specially designated pet-friendly cabins on the Gondola so you can take your pups along for the ride, just check for the dog picture on the back window.

There are a few in-room requirements for bringing along your pets. Dogs are allowed to stay in the room alone so long as they don’t disturb other guests of the hotel. And make sure to let the front desk staff know if you’ve left your pet in the room and leave a phone number with them so they can get in touch with you in case of any emergencies. However, if you don’t want to leave Fido alone in your room for too long, there are plenty of pet-friendly services around town such as Trick & Treats Pet Sitting Service, who will come and play with your pup and even take them for walks around the town. Whisker & Tails Dog Washing Service is there to give your fur baby a good scrub if they’ve gotten a little dirty on the trails. Mountain Tails is also a local pet shop that offers healthy treats, toys, food, and more. Telluride has nearly as many dog residents as it does people so almost anywhere you go, you and your pup will be more than welcome!

Fairmont Scottsdale Princess (Scottsdale, Arizona)

This hotel’s pet program is called Posh Paws, and with a name like that how can you go wrong? All friendly dogs and cats are welcome at the Fairmont for an additional fee of $25 per night with extra amenities such as food and water bowls, cozy pet beds, and even in-room dining options where the chefs will create homemade dishes for your furry friends. And if you don’t have your own pet to bring along with you to the Fairmont Princess, you can always hang with the resident lobby dogs, Bixby and Gibbs. Bixby, a Yellow Lab, just might try to hop in your golf cart with you for a ride and Gibbs, a Red Golden Retriever, loves hugs and taking long walks through the beautiful grounds. So whether it’s the local resort pups or your own, you won’t be short of snuggles during your visit to the Fairmont Princess in Scottsdale, AZ.

Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel (Washington, D.C.)

Ok this one seems a little too good to be true, but Mason & Rook Hotel’s pet policy is, “If your pet fits through the door, we’ll welcome them in.” They allow any pet no matter the size, weight, or breed with no extra cost! A few of their amenities include loaner pet beds, food and water bowls, along with mats and courtesy bags for your pet waste. There’s no additional cost, no size/weight limit, and no limit to the number of pets you can bring. Now excuse me while I go to the nearest animal shelter in DC just so I can pamper a bunch of pooches at this incredible hotel. You can also find lists of pet-friendly restaurants, groomers, parks, and shops at the concierge desk. The hotel and restaurant also work with local animal welfare charities for special events. Located just a 15 minute walk from the White House, why not take your dog on a leisurely stroll down Pennsylvania Ave?

Now I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to pack up my pup and go to one of these incredible locations for a nice relaxing weekend. There are so many more locations I’d love to recommend, but if I tried to fit them all into this blog we’d all be here for another week. So give us a call at AurTravel (402.891.6909) if any of these hotels appeal to you and your fur babies. We can also recommend many others in a different local. We would love to help you plan and book your next pet-friendly vacation.

Rebekah Swerczek, AurTravel

Growing up in a small Texas town, Rebekah always had the desire to travel and discover as much of the world as possible. After high school, she took her chance. Rebekah joined a performing arts group based out of southern California called The Young Americans. She had the opportunity to perform, teach, and mentor young kids all around the world. With this group Rebekah was able to travel to 11 different countries. She also met her husband while performing with this group and eventually they settled down in Nebraska, but they still love to travel together any chance they get. So far their favorite places are Riviera Maya, Mexico and Northern Michigan, but they still have a few big ticket bucket list items they’d like to mark off their list including: New Zealand, Hawaii, and Scotland. Rebekah is also a huge animal lover and an avid Harry Potter fan. She is the newest addition to the AurTravel team and so happy to be here.
