Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

In October, hundreds of hot air balloons will paint the sky in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the International Balloon Fiesta. If you are unfamiliar with this event, it began in 1972 with only 13 balloons launching from a parking lot. Now, more than 500 balloons will launch at Balloon Fiesta Park. It is the largest ballooning event on earth, the most photographed event on earth, and the largest annual international event held in the United States.

balloonsIf it’s not already, attending this event should definitely be on your bucket list! This year the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta takes place October 3-11. There are two sessions each day; a morning session and an evening session (there will be no evening session on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday). From mass ascensions to pin trading to fireworks shows, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

You can purchase general admission tickets to the event, or upgrade your experience to the Chasers’ Club or the Gondola Club. A few perks to upgrading include private seating for viewing launches, food and drink items, and private parking and bathrooms.

There are no scheduled events in between the morning and evening sessions. This is a great opportunity to explore Albuquerque! It’s known for a high quality of life and has one of the nation’s most dynamic art communities. Take the family to the Rio Grande Zoo, practice your swing at Arroyo del Oso Golf Course, or take a day trip to Taos.
