Pack Everything You Need In a Carry-on

Packing all you need for a trip in only a carry-on can be beneficial for many reasons. It saves you money; almost all airlines charge for checked baggage. It saves you time; you won’t have to wait in line to weigh and check your bags as well as wait at the carousal to grab your bags after the flight. It saves you energy; lugging a huge piece of luggage around can be extremely exhausting. Although it might be hard to believe, it is possible to easily pack everything you need in a carry-on for almost all the vacations you go on! Here we have some very useful tips to become an expert carry-on packer.

Begin by choosing a color palate for your clothing. By doing so, you can mix and match your pieces of clothing to create multiple outfits without having to pack more clothes. Be sure to actually plan outfits as well. Try them on and make sure they go together. This will also save you space because you won’t just randomly toss in a bunch of clothes that you like but don’t have planned outfits for. Plan to wear layers; when you pull an item of clothing off it will look like a new outfit. Once you have all the outfits planned, lay everything out in front of you on the bed and try to take out at least one fourth of the clothing. We all instinctually over pack; more than likely you won’t even miss those items.

Next it’s time to start toiletry planning. If you want to bring face lotions, oils, serums, etc., buy a bunch of cheap contact lens cases. You don’t need a ton of these face lotions and oils so filling a side of the contact case should be plenty. Not only will this save you space but it will also help you follow TSA liquid rules. It also saves you money because travel sized lotions, etc. can be extremely overpriced.

Now, begin to put everything in your carry-on bag. Be sure to keep everything organized and in a specific place. If TSA wants to look through it, it will be so much easier if you have it all organized instead of spilling all over the floor. Consider purchasing little soft bags/containers for things like socks, undergarments, etc. so that everything has a compartment. Don’t leave any empty space; fill shoes with small items and necks of collared shirts with belts. If you are planning on purchasing items at your destination, put a foldable light travel bag in your carry-on so that you can fill it and check it on the way home.

Most people forget that many airlines allow a carry-on plus a small personal item such as a purse or laptop carrier. This second bag can be used to transport items such as head phones, water bottle, gum, laptop, etc. Try to put everything you’ll want to use in the airport and on the plane in this bag. A big purse or a backpack is great for fitting all these items in. Finally, leave all those “just in case” items at home. You likely won’t need them.
