Jamaica Tales from a Repeat Traveler

I recently returned from a trip to Jamaica. It was my 13th or 14th time to Jamaica – I have lost count! It is my “home”. Every time I arrive, the people welcome me back “home” with smiles and open arms. I love the Jamaican people. They are so friendly and happy all the time. No worries, Mon!

Aside from the people, there are many other reasons why I love Jamaica. One is the great beaches, especially Seven Mile Beach in Negril. The powdery white sand, clear blue water, and calm tides make it easy to float the day away!

Jamaica has three main tourist areas: Montego Bay (which is where the main airport is), Ocho Rios, and Negril. If you stay in Montego Bay, you can get to your hotel in about 15-20 minutes once you clear immigration and customs and get your luggage. Things to do in Montego Bay include rafting on the Martha Brae River, a Jeep Safari Adventure, or visiting the Luminous Lagoon.

Ocho Rios is home to the famous Dunn’s River Falls. You can also go ziplining, take a ride on the Jamaican bobsled, go horseback riding, or swim with the dolphins. There is so much to see and do in Ocho Rios. It is about a two hour ride from the Montego Bay Airport.

Negril, about a 90 minute drive from Montego Bay, is famous for its beaches. Grab a Red Stripe and watch the beautiful sunset. Or you can venture away from your resort and watch the divers off of the cliffs at Rick’s Café. If you are adventurous, jump off of the cliffs yourself! You can also visit the smaller YS Falls or take a tour of the Appleton Rum Estate.

A wide array of water activities are available at all locations – snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, water skiing, glass bottom boats, kayaks, hobie cats, and banana boat rides.

Don’t be afraid to try the Jamaican food. The national dish is ackee and saltfish, made from the local fruit ackee and dried and salted cod (saltfish). Another famous dish is their Jerk. It can be anywhere from hot to make-your-mouth-numb hot! It is usually served on chicken and is delicious.

If I didn’t truly love Jamaica, do you think I would keep going back? It’s time for you to discover for yourself why Jamaica is so appealing. Call AurTravel today at 402-891-6909 to book your vacation to Jamaica!
