Ecotourism Travel

What is ecotourism? Ecotourism entails traveling to locations with mostly untouched plants and animals. This type of tourism is responsible travel and shows respect for other cultures and environments. Check out these ecotourism destinations that will get you thinking green.

Alaska: Humpback whales, blue whales, brown bears, lynx, sea otters, sea lions, and bald eagles are some of the species that are protected and can be seen in this ecotourism destination. Alaska’s protected land consists of national forests, parks, monuments, wildlife refuges, and state preserves.

Antarctica: Tourists head to Antarctica to witness its glaciers, icebergs, penguins, and whales. Cruising is a popular way to reach this ecotourism destination and is held to a strict environmental guideline. The most popular destination is Elephant Island; the island is a dormant volcano. Here you can bathe in thermally-heated water.

Galapagos Islands: Here, eco-conscious travelers have dedicated themselves to preserving the precious ecosystems found on the 13 major islands. When visiting Galapagos Island you can swim with sea lions and penguins, but no motor sports such as a jet-ski. Ecotourism travelers are inspired by the giant turtles, blue-footed boobies, and iguanas.

Borneo: This ecotourism destination was made popular by the first season of Survivor. Borneo offers a completely self-sufficient hotel subsisting on rainwater and solar energy. Here you will find ecotourism attractions such as Kinabalu Park, Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, Kinabatangan River, Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, and Sabah Tea Garden.
