Living on a single person’s salary with a mortgage, car payment, and plenty of other bills, I definitely don’t get to travel nearly as much as I’d like. But when I do, I want to know that my money is being well spent in places that I’ll enjoy. I also want my vacation to go as smoothly as possible. To do this, I prefer to work through a travel agent.
A few years ago, I worked with the travel designers at AurTravel to plan a girl’s trip to New York City. There were several of us going, all with different schedules and different airports to fly out of. I wanted to pull my hair out, but my agent worked through it all with me.
None of us on the trip had ever been to the Big Apple and were overwhelmed with all of the tourist attractions, places to eat, and hotels to stay in. Luckily, my agent was able to help narrow the hotel choices and because she had been to NYC several times, she helped plan our days out. She booked our tickets on a double decker tour bus, reserved our Broadway tickets, and even made reservations at some restaurants (always making sure to stay within our preferred budget).
Once my friends and I arrived in New York, I had a sense of relief that everything had been planned out and we were well taken care of. When we had a snag in plans for the return trip (one friend’s flight was cancelled), I called the 800 number for AurTravel and they went right to work to fix the problem. They were able to get my friend booked on the next flight.
I’ve heard the arguments that you can book your trips over the internet and such, but I know I never could have planned that trip on my own. I appreciated having the opinion of someone I know and trust who had stayed in the hotel we chose, instead of an anonymous voice on the internet. I told her what we liked and she knew exactly the sites we should see and the ones we could skip.
Working with a travel agent gave me a sense of comfort, knowing that whatever problems arose, I had help just a phone call away.
